Dr. IRINI CHRISTOFORIDI

Sustainable Agriculture & Biodiversity Researcher 


Dr. Eirini Christoforidi is Head of the Department of Plant Production at the Farm Directorate of the Hellenic Mediterranean University (HMU) and a Postdoctoral Researcher in the Department of Agriculture of the School of Agricultural Sciences. She holds a PhD in Agricultural Sciences with a specialisation in Mediterranean Ecosystems and teaches the course "Ecology and Ecosystem Biomonitoring" in the MSc programme "Applied Science and Technology in Agriculture" at HMU.
She has extensive experience in organic farming, ecosystem services, and nature-based solutions for sustainable agricultural development, and she actively participates in research projects on sustainable agriculture, natural resource management, and the promotion of the Cretan Mediterranean diet. She has twenty years of experience as an adult educator and in coordinating Environmental Living Labs (ELLs), as well as in the design and coordination of experiential environmental activities and educational interventions for children and adolescents.
Her research interests focus on Mediterranean plant species resilient to abiotic stress and climate change, ecological solutions for urban and peri-urban green spaces, biodiversity conservation, and environmental education. She is active in international scientific publications, policy collaborations in the field of sustainable agriculture, and a wide range of philanthropic and environmental initiatives.
