WORLD BEE DAY AT THE 1ST PRIMARY SCHOOL OF CHIOS

20/05/2025

Students of the 4th and 5th grades, as well as the all-day higher classes of the 1st Primary School of Chios "IOANNIS PATERAS", under the guidance of the teachers, implemented the environmental education programme "BEE COSMOS" by BEELOSOPHY in an exemplary manner and added their own innovative elements!

The students were initially informed, through audiovisual and theoretical material, about the environmental crisis, the concept of pollination, the diversity of pollinators, their importance and the dangers they face. They also learned to identify several genera and species of wild bees and pollinators in the field and understood the role of the school in the protection of pollinators. BEELOSOPHY material and corresponding experience were utilised, as well as material from the life4pollinators project.

Afterwards, the students used their imagination and artfulness in an art workshop and painted four beehives, courtesy of ARKADIKI MELISSOKOMIA SA. The beehives arrived at the school from Attica with the care of Ermis Transport Company.

The students chose the following themes for their unique visual creations:

  • The Bees in Mythology: The historical and cultural significance of the Bees through the centuries.
  • The Life of the Bees: A glimpse into the wondrous world of the Bee society.
  • The Bees in Chios: The connection of the Bees with the natural and cultural environment of the island.
  • Bees as comics: A creative and modern approach to raise awareness among both young and old.

Through these artistic works, the students of the 1st Primary School of Chios become Bee ambassadors and commit to their protection. The students emphatically state: "We care about species, especially those in danger of extinction, such as Bees. Their protection is an investment in our future and in the future of the planet!"

The action was presented on the occasion of the celebration of May 20th, World Bee Day.

More to come soon!
