WORKSHOP “EDUCATIONAL BEE SANCTUARY”

On Friday, June 27th, at the Center of the Earth, a place where important initiatives to connect humans with nature are being developed, we implemented a workshop entitled "Educational Bee Sanctuary".

Through an interactive discussion with an amazing group of 40 financial executives from a well-known chain of stores, we got to know the world of Bees better, became aware of their importance and learned valuable lessons and values ​​from their society. The group of executives contributed significantly to the success of the workshop with questions and probing observations.

We talked about the communication languages ​​of Bees (Bee dance, etc.) and about the decision-making process on critical issues such as tracking and gathering food, choosing a new home for a newborn Bee colony, assigning responsibilities and forming the governing body. We learned about the queen and realised her discreet and coordinating role. About the important responsibilities of the "misunderstood" drones, the desired ratio of drones and their congregation areas for the fertilisation of queens, which remain stable over time. About the fundamental role of wax and its function as a food store, incubator, nervous system, spine and home for Bees. About flower pollen and its difference from bee pollen. About pure honey and how it is created and extracted. We explained how a bee hunter can locate a wild bee nest in nature and presented a relevant home-made detection device (Beelining box). And more!

In the short time of the workshop, we mentioned the problem of declining Bee populations, which constitutes a threat to life. We hope to have the opportunity of another workshop with the executives, so that we can examine in more detail the importance of Bees for the environment, culture and life, but also to be inspired by additional lessons from Bees and to be actively involved in their protection.
