1st MEETING OF THE NETWORK FOR INTANGIBLE CULTURAL HERITAGE

On Saturday, November 25, 2023, we gathered at Serafio, Athens, for the 1st Meeting of the Network for Intangible Cultural Heritage, an initiative organised by the Directorate of Modern Cultural Heritage of the Ministry of Culture.

The event was held to mark the 20th anniversary of the adoption of the Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (UNESCO 2003). For Greece, 2023 also marks the 10th anniversary of the first entries in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Greece.

According to the organisers, the goal of the meeting was to become acquainted with the valuable work of communities and organisations involved in intangible cultural heritage, to exchange ideas, and—why not—to lay the foundations for new collaborations!

This remarkable initiative to establish the network and its activities is of great importance for highlighting, promoting, and safeguarding elements of intangible cultural heritage. We look forward with great interest to new similar initiatives and meetings within the framework of the Network or beyond, and we would be delighted to contribute to this effort.
