EDUCATIONAL BEE SANCTUARY

OBJECTIVES

• Raise awareness about the cultural and environmental significance of Bees

• Foster environmental consciousness

• Highlight the importance of teamwork, dedication, self-sufficiency, and ethics in achieving success

• Promote a healthy diet and familiarise participants with different aspects of intangible cultural heritage as elements that shape our collective memory, identity, and self-awareness

• Lessons from the hive / The collective wisdom of Bees

Optional:

• Award BEE FRIEND certificates to our ambassadors
• Co-branding / gifts (jars of honey, t-shirts etc.)

PROGRAMME OUTLINE

ACTIVITY 1: AWARENESS RAISING (1-2 HOURS)

This activity is dedicated to Bees, their value for the environment and culture, and ways we can support them. It includes videos, discussion/brainstorming, a lecture-presentation with slides, demonstration of beekeeping materials/equipment, and an educational game.

ACTIVITY 2: HONEY TASTING (2 HOURS)

During this fascinating experience, participants become fully immersed in the intricate secrets of honey. Through interactive exercises, they are introduced to the methods of sensory analysis and are given the rare opportunity to taste and identify seven premium samples of pure Greek honey varieties. Their journey through the aromas and colours of the wild Greek nature is coupled with fun, team-based educational games.

ACTIVITY 3: FOOD HERITAGE WORKSHOP (2 HOURS)

Under the guidance of our award-winning chef and an experienced facilitator, participants learn about the importance of intangible cultural heritage and our agri-food treasures. Afterwards, everyone collaborates to prepare a culturally certified Greek dessert, following an authentic recipe they will love and be able to recreate at home with family or friends.
